While most reboots and reinventions have something in the way of a general DNA, 'Halloween' feels different in a lot of ways because it feels more like a closely-linked sequel than anything else.

In fact, both David Gordon Green and John Carpenter - the original's director - have been keen to point out that it is a sequel and very much intended to supplant everything that came after the first one in 1978. You've got John Carpenter doing the soundtrack, Jamie Lee Curtis back as Laurie Strode, and as these official images show, Michael Myers - played by the original actor, Nick Castle - is back in action and being as terrifying as ever.

A new trailer is due to land online on Friday and will give us more of an idea where the film is headed, but these images definitely point to something good. Just imagine it, folks, a good 'Halloween' movie for the first time in 40 years. Who'd have thunk it?

'Halloween' arrives in Irish cinemas on October 19th.
