Between Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman, Warner Brothers have not had the best reception for their recent superhero movie outputs.
The latest to pan the Dawn of Justice flick is Mel Gibson. His new film, Hacksaw Ridge, received a 10 minute long standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.
The actor-director was interviewed by Deadline at the festival, and when it came to the subject of recent blockbusters’ massive budgets, Gibson was quick to voice his disapproval.
'I look at them and scratch my head,' he said. 'I'm really baffled by it. I think there’s a lot of waste, but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I’d find out different. I don't know. Maybe they do cost that much. I don't know. It seems to me that you could do it for less.'
Gibson then asked how much Batman v Superman cost to make, and when he was told $250 million, he answered, 'And it's a piece of sh*t.'
He went on to condemn the superhero genre in general: 'I'm not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn't wear spandex. So I don't know. Spandex must cost a lot.'
I guess we won’t see Gibson in a cape anytime soon.
