After Bryan Singer was fired from the set of Bohemian Rhapsody, the troubled Queen biopic that's taken an age to get here, a new director has stepped in to take on the reins of the production and get it across the finish line.
Funnily enough, Singer's replacement - Dexter Fletcher - was originally involved in the biopic back when Ben Whishaw was to play Mercury instead of Mr. Robot's Rami Malek. However, Singer's version of the film was - at the time of his firing - only three weeks away from completing filming.
The studio statement on Fletcher's hiring doesn't indicate whether or not there'll be reshoots or if he'll be drastically changing the make-up of Singer's film, but it's likely that there'll be a number of scenes reshot as Fox claims that Singer was regularly absent from the set. On-set reports also claim that on at least one occasion, the film's cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel had to direct a scene while waiting for Singer.
On top of all that, rumours of tension between Singer and Malek allegedly plagued the set; something which Singer admitted to in his statement. "While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving."
Neither Malek nor Singer have publicly commented on the film since Singer's departure and statement. Fletcher, primarily known for his roles in Band Of Brothers, Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Layer Cake, previously directed the English crime thriller Wild Bill and the sports comedy biopic Eddie The Eagle, starring Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton.
Bohemian Rhapsody is still slated for a December 28th, 2018 release.
