It doesn’t look like T.J. Miller, who plays Wade Wilson’s best friend and confidante Weasel in the series, is going to be recast in Deadpool 2.
Producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Rotten Tomatoes that, unlike Kevin Spacey being replaced by Christopher Plummer in Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, she doesn’t expect it will be possible to replace Miller as they enter the final stage of post-production.
"We’re in the final editing," she said. "I don’t think so."
Miller recently denied accusations from a fellow student at George Washington University that he'd been physically and sexually violent during their brief relationship in 2001, telling The Daily Beast that the woman was "using the current climate" of the #MeToo movement "to bandwagon and launch these false accusations." Star of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds, and director David Leitch never commented on the issue.
While it looks like Miller won’t be cut from Deadpool 2, his future in the franchise is more ambiguous. As the Disney-Fox deal comes to a close, it’s likely that Disney will have final say on Miller’s presence in any later Deadpool movies. "That’s a whole studio thing," Shuler Donner said. "I don’t know."
Deadpool 2 hits Irish cinemas on June 1st.
