It's been rumoured for some time, but now it's official - Spidey will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU, as it's commonly known, comprises of the films made by Disney under the Marvel Studios banner. Up until now, the Spider-Man films were made by Sony Pictures.
However, a deal struck between the two studios means that Spider-Man will be making appearances in upcoming Marvel Studios films, including a standalone feature to be determined in the future.
It's expected that Spider-Man will make an appearance in the third Captain America film, entitled Civil War.
The Civil War plot in the comics was one of the most popular and all-encompassing stories, of which Spider-Man played an integral role.
Amy Pascal, the Sony exec behind some of the worst e-mails featured in SonyHack, will be acting as executive producer for the Spider-Man film.
The first standalone Spider-Man film has been slated for July 28, 2017 with a number of Marvel films being moved and pushed back to clear room for the web-slinger.
It's now confirmed also that Andrew Garfield will not be reprising his role as Spider-Man.
CONFIRMED: Andrew Garfield is NO LONGER Spider-Man. Someone new will be cast. First appearance in MCU, then solo film.
