Call Me By Your Name did well with this year's Oscar nominations and the film's helped to launch Timothee Chalamet's career, so it's no surprise that a sequel is already in the works.

In an interview with Collider, director Luca Guadagnino confirmed that a sequel is in the works and will have a unique setting like the first film. "I think the next chapter it will be happening right after the fall of Berlin Wall and that great shift that was the end of Russia, of the USSR, sorry. And we’ll see people leaving home and going in the world. That’s what I can say for now," said Guadagnino.

What's more, the way he's talking about the whole experience, it seems like it won't just end with a sequel. "I believe that I will end up making a cycle of films about these characters because I love them so much. And I think their experience of life is ripe for many, many adventures."

The book on which the film is based does do a time-jump to when the two characters, Elio and Oliver, are older - but it doesn't specifically reference any time period, so it may just be that an original story will come up with the same characters.

Call Me By Your Name is currently in Irish cinemas.
