Although we're still deep in blockbuster season, don't be in the least bit surprised if 'Widows' makes its way into the Oscar season.

After all, the calibre of talent both in front of and behind the camera pretty much puts into the conversation. You've got Steve McQueen, who directed '12 Years A Slave' and 'Shame', Gillian Flynn of 'Gone Girl' fame writing a screenplay with an ensemble cast that includes Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya, Liam Neeson, Robert Duvall, Jacki Weaver and many more besides.

The film is based on a BBC miniseries written by Lynda La Plante, best known as the creator of 'Prime Suspect', and followed three women whose husbands die in a violent armed robbery and, facing pressure from both a rival outfit and the police, band together to pull off a heist of their own to settle their husbands' business.

McQueen isn't all that known for directing action, but the trailer definitely has all the requisite tension and drive to make it something special.

'Widows' arrives in Irish cinemas on November 9th.
