Dick Cheney has been one of the most divisive figures in American politics, serving as the Vice-President of George W. Bush.

Prior to this, Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton, a massive oil company and there was some who believed that the Iraq War was spearheaded on Cheney's orders. Like we said, he's divisive figure and the story of his life, times and career is one that's ripe for a film adaptation.

Although many would recognise Adam McKay more for Anchorman and Step Brothers, the director - who did an excellent podcast with us a while ago - has been evolving into more serious work. The Big Short was nominated for several Oscars and was, by all accounts, critically lauded. Therefore, it makes sense that McKay would take another shot at directing a film in the political sphere.

Cheney's already featured in a film previously, played by Richard Dreyfus in Oliver Stone's biopic of George W. Bush. McKay apparently began work on the script after The Big Short was completed. In a recent interview with Deadline, McKay explained that "once we started digging I was astounded at how much he had shaped modern America’s place in the world and how shocking the methods were by which he gained his power."

No release date has been set, but it's expected the Dick Cheney biopic will hit production once they've cast the man himself. Any guesses on that front? We're thinking Russell Crowe, because Cheney looked quite similar to Crowe in Michael Mann's The Insider.
