If you had any doubt in your mind about whether or not 'A Star Is Born' was going to be huge, it should be pretty much gone now if reports out of the Venice Film Festival are to be believed.
Variety reports that 'A Star Is Born' received an eight-minute standing ovation at the world premiere of the movie, though the screening itself was interrupted by a technical glitch throughout that saw the whole show stopped for something close to fifteen minutes.
Both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga looked visibly relieved after the movie ended, with the early reviews praising both Gaga's performance and Cooper's direction. TheWrap cited Cooper and Gaga's chemistry on screen together, adding that the movie "is a story that lives and dies by the central relationship and the instant chemistry that must blossom between them, and these two have it in spades."
EW, meanwhile, singled out Gaga's reined-in performance, saying that "she deserves praise for her restrained, human-scale performance as a singer whose real-girl vulnerability feels miles away from the glittery meat-dress delirium of her own stage persona."
The movie opens in Ireland on October 5th.
