Zac Efron is on a bit of a roll of late, with Bad Neighbours giving the handsome leading man a new (comedic) lease on life, while 20 something DJ flick We Are Your Friends is due for release in the next couple of weeks.

Now, Efron is apparently being lined up to star opposite none other than Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in a big screen version of the Baywatch movie being directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses).

The tone for the movie is set to be action/comedy in the same way that 21 Jump Street was; so tongue in cheek but not a parody. That film went on to be a surprise smash at the box office, with an even more successful sequel soon after.

Johnson is now firmly the biggest, most consistent box office draw in action cinema. While he appeared in Furious 7 this year, the success of San Andreas was built on his name.

Efron will also star in a sequel to Bad Neighbours and has Bad Grandpa with Robert De Niro due in 2016.
