Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou is to remake the Coen Brothers first film, Blood Simple. In an extremely strange move, Variety is saying that Sony will fund the production and distribute. According to the trade paper, the untitled redo will be "set in a Chinese noodle shop in a dune-specked desert, rather than a bar in an unnamed Texas town, and revolve around the restaurant owner's plan to murder his adulterous wife and her lover." Yimou last helmed House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics.
