Between the news that our very own Jack Reynor (What Richard Did) will be appearing in the next Transformers flick and now the desire of Irish actress Katie McGrath to take on a Star Wars role, it seems the younger generation will have no trouble carrying on the Irish actor's torch in the path of the Michael Fassbenders, the Gleesons and the Daniel Day-Lewis's (we're claming his as our own, right?).

Yes, Wicklow born Katie McGrath (who you'll know from the BBC's Merlin) has said she'd love to appear in Star Wars, but not as a damsel in distress or any of that nonsense, as a bad guy.

Speaking to Metro about the Disney take over McGrath said: "My friend once sculpted me a bust of Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars... He's my favourite character in the films after Han Solo. He's that goldfish-type alien in the white costume. 'It's a trap!' I'm a big geek." On the planned movies she said: "I'm very excited about the possibility they could be like the first three, I'm a bit scared they might be like the prequels." On the subject of nabbing a role herself, she said: "I'd melt into a puddle on the floor if that ever came my way. I'd be a ball of jelly. I'd want to be a bad guy though... You get to have all the powers of a Dark Sith Lord but if you say you're sorry you still get the blue aura around you when you die... There also haven't been any bad women in Star Wars. And I'd love to get my own Star Wars action figure."

So if yer listening, Mr. Lucas, or Mr. Disney we should say, keep our Katie in mind.
