M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening is being trounced by critics in the states, as it opens worldwide today, alongside the much more positively reviewed The Incredible HulkThe Chicago Tribune branded the thriller "simplistic" while Entertainment Weekly addressed the "pompous" execution. Not everyone hated it though, as The Village Voice offered faint praise, calling it "effective nonsense". The return of The Hulk was a much more successful affair according to the scribes, who welcomed the somewhat dumbed down reboot. The New York Post thought that "like its monstrous hero, The Incredible Hulk gets the job done with minimal artistry and a lot of noise."; while Variety enjoyed it saying it was "perfectly solid summer action fare". Expect The Happening to do average business, and The Hulk to do decent, but unspectacular coin.
