Get Smart and The Love Guru are the two big comedic blockbusters being released in direct competition with each other as both films aim predominately for the same market. The television remake Get Smart starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and The Rock has received faint praise from America’s critics, with most scribes noting that Carrell is by far the best thing about it; Peter Travers at Rolling Stone summed it up by saying it’s "No knockout, but Carell wins on a rock-solid technicality - he's funny"; while Newsday agreed saying "Get Smart does all it can to please; thanks mostly to Carell, it just barely succeeds". Carrell is still looking for that great role to match his brilliant turn in The 40 Year Old Virgin, but this should do financially well regardless. The Love Guru hasn’t gone down well with the professional movie watchers at all though; the vast majority have slaughtered the Mike Myers comeback with Variety calling it "relentlessly juvenile" while The Chicago Tribune cracked it with "e're talking 15 or 20 minutes of decent material. The movie runs a little longer than that" Industry pundits are predicted a box office victory for ‘Smart’.
