Lots of people watched the Watchmen this weekend, as the film grossed an estimated $55.7 million over three days, to give it a hugely impressive start. The Zack Snyder helmed adaptation was considered a hard sell at nearly three hours long, while some industry insiders had predicted that it would top the $70 million bow of 300, and thus are calling the opening a disappointment. The film is a 'hard R' in America, which means that it can't attract the same younger audiences as the PG-13 Dark Knight, and played predominately to the older 25's. Its budget is estimated at over $100 million, but given the strong fanbase and global appeal, it should turn a solid profit for the studios involved.
