If you're unfamiliar with the name Shane Black, you're definitely familiar with some of his work.

The guy basically created the buddy-cop genre, starting all the way back in 1987 with Lethal Weapon. He's since wrote / directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and directed Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey Jr.

In short, the guy's a bit of a Hollywood legend - so seeing him team up with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe for a '70s crime comedy is pretty special. The film tells the story of a private detective (Gosling) who's recruited by a professional heavy (Crowe) at the behest of a political figure (Kim Basinger, you guys!). Her daughter has been kidnapped and is somehow mixed up with a plan by the mob to infiltrate Los Angeles.

Basically, think L.A. Confidential if it was funny and set in the '70s and you're on the right track. In fact, it's Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger teaming up again, so that's definitely no accident.

The Nice Guys is set for a June 3rd release, but in the meantime, here's the totally NSFW trailer.
