Today's the day! Perhaps the most exciting day on the cinematic calendar, excluding the day of the actual ceremony itself, is the day the Oscar nominees get announced. We'll be glued to our screens as Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs deliver the news.

Just this week alone we've been lucky enough to get advance access to two films bound to go head to head, Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street. Now both leads of those movies triumphed at the Golden Globes with Matthew McConaughey taking home the Best Actor in a drama gong while DiCaprio got the same award but for the category of comedy/musicals. With the Oscars, however, there's only one Best Actor award. Of course Chiwetel Ejiofor from 12 Years a Slave is in with a pretty strong chance too.

Given Leo's luck (or lackthereof) with the Oscars, in that he just can't seem to bag one, many reckon that McConaughey has it sorted. He really was mindblowing as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club. Then again, Leo's unyielding commitment to the role of Jordan Belfort, one that garnered more laughs per minute than many of the best comedies I've seen, is sure to strike a chord with the academy. Well, it better.

As for Best Supporting Actor? A tie between Jared Leto and Michael Fassbender for us. As for all the rest? We'll put our speculation on hold for now and see what comes from Hollywood.

Tune in to this story with the live stream from 1.38pm (yes, very specific) to catch all the nominees as they're announced in real time.

Who would you like to see reign supreme? Who do you think will be snubbed? We wait with bated breath.
