Could we see Jake Gyllenhaal at next year's Oscars? We think so.
Southpaw tells the story of a boxing champion (Gyllenhaal) who retires at the top of his game in order to spend more time with his family. However, when a tragedy sees his wife (Rachel McAdams) die and his daughter placed into social care, he has to start from the bottom to get it all back.
Written by Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter and directed by Training Day's Antoine Fuqua, there's a very decent shot that Southpaw could fight its way into the Oscar race.
