Denzel Washington picked up the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Outstanding Achievement at last night's Golden Globes and, believe it or not, he was probably the most truthful speaker in the film categories.

Washington opened his speech by talking about Freddy Fields, his old agent, and how he attended the first HPFA luncheon way back when. "He said, 'you're gonna go to the luncheon, they're gonna watch the film, we're gonna feed 'em, they're gonna come over, you're gonna take pictures with everybody, you're gonna hold the magazines, take the pictures and you're gonna win the award... I won that year."

The Golden Globes has often been criticised for its voting structure and the fact that, yes, it involves a lot of glad-handing to the the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Washington, however, didn't look at that concerned - he even forgot his glasses and his speech when he was onstage with his family.

Here's his speech in full.

You can actually hear the nervous laughter from all the actors and directors in the audience, but Matt Damon's reaction was the best. It's almost as if he knows exactly the sort of bulls*** that goes into winning a Golden Globe, especially now that Matt Damon's picked up a few of them down through the years.

If only all the awards speeches were as honest as this. Never change, Denzel.
