Denzel Washington's sophomore directorial effort, Fences has been generating awards buzz since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival (our own Brian Lloyd has listed it among his early Oscar predictions) and now the first trailer has been released so we can get an idea of what all the fuss is about.

Based on August Wilson's 1987 Pulitzer prize winning play of the same name, Fences sees Washington star in the lead role of garbage collector Troy Maxson while Viola Davis plays his wife Rose. Washington and Davis starred in the Broadway revival of the play back in 2010, which won Tonys for Best Revival of a Play, Best Actor and Best Actress.

The trailer mostly focuses on the memorable “How come you ain’t never liked me?” scene from the play while intercutting footage from the rest of the story.
