Christian Bale? Deadly. He's a far cry from Bruce Wayne here. Amy Adams? Deadly, she can tackle just about any role. Bradley Cooper with his hair in rollers? Deadly, though we'll miss fancying him as we have done in almost every other movie. Jennifer Lawrence looking sultry and posing in all manner of compromising positions? Deadly. And Jeremy Renner? Well that's a nicely rounded cast of A-Listers. Oh and did we mention the supporting cast that includes Robert De Niro, Louis CK, Jack Huston and Michael Peña? Well, there you go. Hello, Oscars.

From the director of Silver Linings Playbook, David O Russell, American Hustle looks class. It's set in the 1970s too which makes it even more of a feast for the eyes. Formerly known as American Bullshit, or just 'the ABSCAM movie', this is a fictionalised retelling of the 1978 FBI sting operation known as "ABSCAM" wherein a number of high profile public officials were taken down. The film centres on Bale and Cooper's characters, as a con artist and his partner in crime, who, as per IMDB, "find themselves forced to work with a federal agent to turn the tables on other cons, mobsters, and politicians - namely, the volatile mayor of impoverished Camden, New Jersey."

Expect impressive 70s styling (not to mention the hair and the chin pubes), and an intense, well-told story. That is if O Russell's last outing was anything to go by.
