It's hard to believe but there are still some cinemas showing Stephen King's It, and what's more, it's done a roaring trade in a year when box office receipts are in a downward trend.

But could it potentially snag itself an Oscar? Well, it looks like Warner Bros. are prepared to give it a shot.

The official For Your Consideration page for Warner Bros.' offerings has been updated to include It in all categories, most notably in Best Supporting Actor - which includes Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise - and Best Adapted Screenplay. The screenplay was written by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga, who worked on the screenplay before exiting, and Gary Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation.

As well as these, It is also touting its Sound Mixing, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, as well as Visual Effects - all technical awards and likely to put it in direct contention with the likes of Blade Runner 2049 and The Last Jedi.

So, what are It's chances for an Oscar? Pretty good, especially when you consider that Suicide Squad won an Oscar. While it'll face steep competition, there's every possibility that they could receive a nomination in Best Supporting Actor or Best Adapted Screenplay. Skarsgard's performance as Pennywise was lauded by critics and audiences alike, however the category's looking especially tough this year to break through.

The nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards will be announced on January 23rd, 2018.
