Brie Larson's powerful, Oscar-winning performance in Room has rightly been hyped to the hilt by audiences and critics alike.
Her win on Sunday night has now confirmed her as one of the most respected actresses working today and it's clear she isn't stopping there. Already, she's signed on for Skull Island, a blockbuster-budget prequel to King Kong, scheduled for 2017, and will also star in Ben Wheatley's '70s-set crime thriller Free Fire in late 2016.
In other words, she's on the up and up and rightfully so. But it could have all been so different for her.
Back in the heady days of 2005, Brie Larson wasn't a burgeoning talent on the cusp of stardom. She was, in fact, a 15-year old bubble-gum pop singer with a string of radio hits that didn't exactly set the world alight. She Said, Go Goodbye and Finally Out Of P.E. all failed to chart in the Top 40, except for She Said which peaked at 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles. However, her song Hope Has Wings did feature in the direct-to-video film Barbie And The Magic of Pegasus, which is something.
Her one and only album, Finally Out Of P.E., sold just 3,500 copies in the US. OOF.
Larson, for her part, hasn't denied her past as a pop singer and these are all freely available on YouTube. Thankfully, she's chucked the whole pop singer thing and opted for a career as an Oscar-winning actress. Good choice, Brie, because honestly, these songs are all terrible.
