Earlier this morning we reported this...

So it looks like Evil Dead 2 won't be happening as Fede Alvarex and Rodo Sayagues both have dropped out of the sequel.

Alvarez had previously planned to make a sequel and spoke at SXSW that work on the film was already in motion, so his sudden departure comes as a bit of a surprise. As the film made a huge €80 million dollar profit we doubt the production team will scrap the movie entirely. But one thing's for sure Avalrez and Sayagues won't be returning. In a recent interview, Sayagues said , 'I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.'

It all seems a little suspicious if you ask us. The pair are currently working on 'Dante's Inferno' for Universal. All is not lost though as Alvarez recently revealed that the original director of Evil Dead, Sam Raimi is set to direct Army Of Darkness 2 with a returning Bruce Campbell.

And then Fede Alvarex spoke out and denied the above saying Evil Dead 2 would be happening, he is still on board and the above was all just a misunderstanding...

According to Alvarex, 'stuff got lost in translation' and what Sayagues mean't to say was, 'Rodo meant we’re not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam’s Army of Darkness 2, But the plan of making a sequel to our Evil Dead is very much alive.'  Well, we're glad he cleared that up but does this mean Sayagues is still not returning. We will just have to wait and see.
