Jesus. Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is to direct an adaptation of Hamlet, that is to star Milk and Speed Racer actor Emile Hirsch. The contemporary film will be set in a "liberal arts college" where Hamlet's father was president, before obviously being clipped in a violent manner by someone he knows. Hardwicke directed Hirsch, before he really hit paydirt, in the film Lords of Dogtown, and the two apparently pitched the idea of a Hamlet movie together. Hardwicke isn't a particularly awful director, but she is a pretty bland one; the idea of the director of Twilight adapting Shakespeare will undoubtedly irk some regardless.
