'Mrs. Doubtfire' turns 25 years old this year. In honour of Robin William's great outing as Euphegenia Doubtfire, here's our Top 10 list of other honourable mentions of men who dressed up as women for their acting roles.

10 - Eddie Murphy in 'The Nutty Professor'

Yes, we know - it's not the greatest of movies. And don't ever mention its sequel or the travesty that followed, 'Norbit'. However, one of the highlights of Murphy's 'The Nutty Professor' is his characterisation of Mama and Grandma Klump, who make brief appearances around the dinner table.

9 - John Travolta in 'Hairspray'

Travolta's first musical since 'Grease' saw the actor play a significantly different role in 'Hairspray'. Donning a fat suit that weighed more than 30 pounds, Edna has been a fan favourite since the movie hit screens in 2007.

8 - Martin Lawrence in 'Big Momma’s House'

Another movie to fall down the unnecessary sequel rabbit hole, 'Big Momma's House' saw Lawrence become an undercover cop dressed as an old age pensioner. Possibly attempting to copy the success of 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' the movie never quite does it justice, but makes a valiant attempt.

7 - Shawn and Marlon Wayans in 'White Chicks'

It's best not to think of what people would say if 'White Chicks' was released in today's sensitive climate, because the movie is actually quite funny. Two undercover cops dress up as young socialites, and go shopping and breakdancing - what's not to love? The ever-youthful Terry Crews and his obsession with 'A Thousand Miles' steals the show.

6 - Eddie Redmayne in 'The Danish Girl'

Oscar nominated for his role, Redmayne plays Lili who is a trans gendered woman. Speaking about playing the character, Redmayne said the role “absolutely made me look at the notion of my own gender."

5 - Jared Leto in 'Dallas Buyers Club'

A supporting character in 'Dallas Buyers Club', Leto plays Rayon in the Matthew McConaughey-led movie. He went on to win both the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, as well as The Golden Globe.

4 - Dustin Hoffman in 'Tootsie'

One of his most memorable role's in film, Dustin Hoffman plays Michael, a failed actor who is so desperate to get a role in a trashy soap that he's willing to dress up as a woman. Hoffman's characterisation of Dorothy proved to be a success, as he earned himself a Golden Globe.

3 - Cillian Murphy in 'Breakfast on Pluto'

Little did we know that we'd be seeing a hell of a lot more of Cillian Murphy some 18 years on from 'Breakfast on Pluto'. Based on the book of the same name, and written by Pat McCabe, Murphy's character Patrick "Kitten" Braden travels Ireland and London in the 1970s. Unfortunately there are no scenes from the movie on YouTube, so a musical montage will have to do.

2 - Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in 'Some Like It Hot'

Frequently included in lists of the best movies ever made, 'Some Like It Hot' was one of the first times that cinema audiences would have seen men dressed in drag costume on screen. The late Jack Lemmon won a Golden Globe for his role as Daphne in 1959.

1 - Robin Williams in 'Mrs. Doubtfire'

Here it is - the main attraction. It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since Robin Williams first graced our screens as the Scottish nanny who stole our hearts in 'Mrs. Doubtfire'. Everything from the burning of his blouse, to taking part in a "run-by fruiting" with Pierce Brosnan, no other movie could ever top our list.
