Today in exciting casting news, British boyos Tom Hardy and Jason Statham are rumoured to be going head to head in the running to star as Snake Plissken in Die Hard director Joel Silver's Escape from New York. In yet another story that centres on the security of the president (we have White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen to look forward to this year), Escape from New York tells the sci-fi action tale of a fallen war hero who earns the chance to vindicate his name by rescuing the big man who has found himself at the mercy of prison inmates. What's up with the resurgence of this kind of movie? Hollywood seems to get off on the idea of putting the most powerful man in the world under threat.
This picture will be a reboot of the John Carpenter's 1981 original starring Kurt Russell. Who do you think would be best suited to the role? We're massive Tom Hardy fans in here so we'd like to see him save the day here. Especially after terrorizing us in The Dark Knight Rises, it'd be nice to see him play the goodie.
Also rumoured to be getting a reboot is Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Having acquired the rights to the movie, MGM's chairman said: "Graham (King, producer and developer) is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise... We look forward to developing more projects together in the future." While King added: "The enthusiasm over the recent game release is very encouraging and we can't wait to bring it to the big screen."
