As reported earlier this month, Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are collaborating with NASA on a feature film that will be filmed in space. It would be the first-ever feature film to be produced outside of planet Earth. And it's not like the project is just a dream or something that will happen way in the future. With a director attached, it's already making moves.
Tom Cruise has had plans for the movie for a long time, and will actually travel to space in a craft to shoot the film.
It looks like he'll be working opposite a long time collaborator on the action adventure film.
Doug Liman, who previously directed Cruise in 'American Made' and 'Edge of Tomorrow (aka 'Live Die Repeat'), is set to direct. Liman's other credits include 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith', 'The Bourne Identity', and 'Swingers'.
According to Deadline, this isn't a loose attachment. The director and actor came up with the idea together. Liman penned the first draft of the screenplay and is producing alongside Cruise.

NASA has also confirmed their involvement with the project.
Elon Musk, in partnership with NASA, will tomorrow launch the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida. It will carry two American astronauts at the Kennedy Space Center, marking a groundbreaking public-private partnership.
The next time you'll see Cruise on the big screen is in 'Top Gun: Maverick', which has been pushed to a December release. He is also working with Christopher McQuarrie on 'Mission: Impossible 7', for which production is currently paused.
