New Zealand-born filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi is coming to Ireland.

The filmmaker was behind two of the funniest independent comedies of recent years – Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows, the latter of which he both starred in and directed.

The Light House Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin, is celebrating Waititi’s work by screening both films as well as his features Boy and Eagle Vs Shark in a retrospective which ends on Saturday.

The cinema has now announced that it will culminate with a visit from the director himself.

Taika Waititi has also made his first Hollywood feature, the highly anticipated Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok, which hits Irish cinemas on October 24th. The third outing for the titular hero has already been getting rave reviews that claim it’s Marvel’s funniest movie yet.
