The Simpsons and Thor screenwriter Don Payne has died. Having penned quite a large number of episodes of The Simpsons as well as being a writer on the original Thor and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, Payne was a well regarded individual in the industry, winning four Emmy awards over years gone by. The cause and details of his death have yet to surface.

Payne not only wrote over 16 episodes of the most popular cartoon around, he also worked as a producer on over 100 of the shows. Other credits to his name included Men Behaving Badly, Veronica's Closet and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Actress Kat Dennings who had worked with Payne on Thor tweeted the following: "I am lucky to have known you. You are so missed" while Jaimie Alexander (Thor, The Last Stand) tweeted: "My heart is broken. You were a wonderful funny man who helped change my life and I will always love you. The world is less today. Don, may you rest in peace and may peace and love be with your family. You are in my heart always."

We're greatly saddened to hear of the loss of such a bright spark. He was just 49 years of age. RIP.
