AMC, the extremely credible American cable network who house the likes of Mad Men, The Vanishing and The Walking Dead, are looking to get in the Martin Scorsese business with a possible series based on one of his best movies, Goodfellas, reports Deadline.

The idea for a TV series based around the characters from the 1990 Oscar winner was first mooted in 2010, but is now only coming to fruition as AMC come on board. Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the movie based on his own non-fiction book Wiseguy, is on board to co-write the TV series adaptation with TV writer-producer Jorge Zamacona (who has worked on the likes of Homicide: Life On The Street previously). Martin Scorsese would produce the series and direct the pilot - just like he did with HBO show, Boardwalk Empire.

Comparisons with The Sopranos are quite probably inevitable, but it could be argued that that series would never have existed if it wasn’t for Scorsese's gangster opus. Regardless, that's a talented behind the scenes crew and I wanna see it already.
