One of the best young writers in the country at the moment, and the highlight of our movie show for many, Hot Press scribe Roe McDermott can be seen in the flesh this Thursday at The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, for a cinematic shindig that embraces the femininity of cinema.

The International Woman’s Day Film Festival will take in screenings of numerous flicks from around the globe, while Roe will be hosting Q and A's with the likes of His and Hers director Ken Wardrop and the hugely in demand helmer of As If I'm Not There, Juanita Wilson. There are many other screenings, including Oranges and Sunshine and The White Dress. Tickets are available from the Light House cinema box office at a cost of €20 for a daily ticket or €9 per feature film and 50% of the proceeds will go towards Women of Concern, supporting women’s projects in Bangladesh. Visit www.lighthousecinema.ieor call Concern on 01 417 8064 for more information on this event and on Concern’s other International Women’s Day events on March 8th.

This is an event that is well worth checking out, and for an extremely worthy cause.
