Irish production The Guard has screened to cracking reviews at Sundance.

The film, about a pissed up, lazy small town Irish copper who has his nose put out of joint when an FBI Agent invades his turf , stars Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Trade paper Variety saw the film and spewed, "it's Gleeson who rightly owns the screen as a beer-swilling, crotch-grabbing, Derringer-firing crusader with one hell of a filthy mouth to go along with his heart of gold."

John Michael McDonagh makes his debut directing the film. His brother, Martin, previously had his excellent debut effort, In Bruges, premiere to ecstatic reviews at the festival two years ago.
