Irish flick The Guard, which premiered to accolades at Sundance, has just been given an Irish release date of July 8th.

Written and directed by (brother of In Bruges writer/director) John Michael McDonagh, it's a comedy thriller set on the west coast of Ireland starring Brendan Gleeson as a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought Don Cheadle's FBI agent to his door.

The likes of Liam Cunningham, Pat Shortt and Mark Strong also make appearances. Really looking forward to it - let's hope we see a trailer soon.
