As we wave goodbye to awards season, we welcome festival season with open arms. One such cornerstone of the summer months is the Cannes Film Festival. They've recently welcomed Steven Spielberg as their festival jury president and now, we've gotten word on the opening film; The Great Gatsby.

Kicking off the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival in style, will be Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of the much loved F Scott Fitzgerald novel. Reported by Deadline, this comes as no surprise, what with Luhrmann's longstanding relationship with Cannes. Apparently, the premiere and lavish party for his Moulin Rouge back in 2001 still goes down as one of the glitziest nights in Cannes history. If that was anything to go by, his next Cannes premiere, 12 years later, will be no short of show-stopping.

The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke.
