Documentary 'The 8th' is due to premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh tonight. But there's good news if you're worried you'll miss it as the movie will also get a cinematic release later this year.
The movie traces Ireland’s historical campaign to remove the 8th Amendment – a constitutional ban on abortion.
It depicts the dynamic female leaders of the pro-choice campaign who made it happen; and relates the wrenching failures that led to this defining moment in Ireland’s history.
Speaking about the cinematic release and its Irish premiere tonight, directors Maeve O’Boyle, Lucy Kennedy and Aideen Kane commented: "We couldn't be happier that our first screening in Ireland is the Opening Night of the Galway Film Fleadh.
"This is a story about Ireland and the incredible movement that changed Irish women's lives.
"We look forward to bringing it to as many audiences as possible around Ireland later this year."
Break Out Pictures acquired the feature.
The Irish firm is also distributing the music documentary 'Phil Lynott: Songs For While I'm Away', based on Thin Lizzy's frontman. It hits cinemas later this year.
The next film from Break Out to hit cinemas is 'Broken Law'. It arrives on the big screen later this month on July 31st.
