Superbad director Greg Mottola has signed up to direct the new Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy Paul. According to Variety, the story revolves around two British slackers who, after visiting Comic-Con (big geek fest in San Diego), go on a road trip to Area 51, where they encounter a small alien named Paul, who enlists them to help him find his way home. Pegg has so far failed to star in a hit film outside of his work with Frost, with How To Lose Friends and Alienate People being an out-and-out flop, having barely scraped into the American top 20 box office chart. But his work with Frost always brings in the masses, at least on this side of the pond, while the added quality of Mottola as a director should really push it for their first break out hit stateside. Mottola  just wrapped Adventureland with Ryan Reynolds.
