With 'The Mandalorian' being a qualified success for Disney+, the huge weight of expectation of Ewan McGregor's 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series, and the billion-dollar box office for 'The Rise of Skywalker', the 'Star Wars' franchise is going nowhere any time soon.

Even though Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the movies are now in a cooling-off phase, plans are already in motion for what's in store once it ends. As previously reported, 'Game of Thrones' showrunnners David Benioff and DB Weiss have dropped out of their proposed trilogy, and nothing's happening with Rian Johnson's proposed trilogy either.

However, trade bible Deadline is reporting that a new 'Star Wars' project is in the works with indie director J.D. Dillard and 'Agents of SHIELD' and 'Luke Cage' writer Matt Owens. The rumour is that the project will focus on Exegol, the hidden planet where the Emperor was reborn from 'The Rise of Skywalker'.

Considering how poorly 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' performed at the box office, it's not known if this spinoff will be for Disney+ or it'll be heading to cinemas. Not only that, you've got to wonder if there really is a story in that premise that people will actually want to watch.

For one, a lot of people really did think that bringing back the Emperor was a cop-out, and that Colin Trevorrow's early draft - where the Emperor didn't feature - was a far better story. Not only that, how often is it that movies focus exclusively on what villains get up to in between stories?

As you'd expect, this is all early days yet and no release date, casting or any other information has come forward so the likelihood is that you won't hear anything more about this for a while, or until it's shelved in favour of something else altogether.
