Variety are reporting that eight directors are being considered by Fox to helm Wolverine 2, after Darren Aronofsky had to drop out of the sequel.

The names are: Doug Liman (directed my favourite movie, Swingers as well as The Bourne Identity); Justin Lin (guy behind the last three Fast and Furious films); Jose Padilha (Brazilian helmer of Elite Squad); Gavin O'Connor (did solid work with Colin Farrell/Ed Norton starrer Pride and Glory); Mark Romanek (brilliant music video helmer who also directed the excellent Never Let Me Go and One Hour Photo) Gary Shore (commercials director); James Mangold (Oscar winner Walk the Line) and Antoine Fuqua (his one very good film is Training Day).

Of all of those names I'd settle down on two; either Doug Liman or Mark Romanek. Liman may very well be the most influential action director of the past couple of decades. His work on Bourne was incredibly bold and has been knocked off countless times since, but he's waned of late and that could go against him. Romanek would be the closest in tone to Aronofsky on the list, and the man has a beautiful visual style and tonnes of ability. Place your bets...
