Sound Aussie sort Sam Worthington has signed up for his next project and it's based on a true story. The Avatar leading man will star in the Michael Mann produced Texas Killing Fields, which Mann's daughter, Ami Canaan Mann will direct.
According to Variety, the film will be based on a series of murders that took place in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries. The real life slayings saw 60 people killed, during decades of homicides and disappearances. Worthington will play a Texas detective, who teams up with another cop from New York to investigate.
Worthington just finished the John Madden-helmed remake of The Debt opposite Helen Mirren, which may be in limbo with the recent falling of Miramax Films.
