Adam McKay's shift from comedy to thought-provoking political dramas has been an interesting one, to say the least.

After the enjoyable-and-terrifying financial polemic that was The Big Short, McKay's now moved to target the former US Vice President, Dick Cheney - with none other than Christian Bale taking on the title role. THR has now confirmed that Sam Rockwell will be play George W. Bush to Bale's Cheney, with Steve Carrell cast hawkish Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld.

There's no word yet on a release date, however it's understood that production is due to kick off next month - so you can fully expect to see this in the Oscar race for 2019.
