Although the script hasn't been finished and there's a cloud over JJ Abrams' involvement, we're hearing rumours that Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron are up for roles in the next chapter of Star Wars. We know from a leaked casting call that they're looking for younger actors so here's five possible choices...

DANE DeHAAN

He's already lined up to play Harry Osborn in Amazing Spiderman 2, but we think Dane DeHaan could totally play Mark Hamill / Luke Skywalker's son. For one, they both look weirdly similar. They've both got the sandy-blonde hair, blue eyes and a very youthful face. Not only that, DeHaan's a pretty decent actor. Take a look at Chronicle or The Place Beyond The Pines and you'll see what he's capable of.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE

Honestly, we'd cast Jennifer Lawrence in a big-studio remake of The Room. She'd probably make it awesome, too. We absolutely love her. But more than anything, Lawrence has proven that she can manage the expectations of hardcore fans. Her performance in The Hunger Games was pretty on the money and she's back in the blue-skin makeup as Mystique for X-Men: Days Of Future Past. On that basis, her dance-card may be full for the next while but we think she'd easily play the daughter of Han Solo / Harrison Ford and Princess Leia / Carrie Fisher. She's got both Fisher's dark eyes and Ford's wit and charm.

RYAN GOSLING

Gosling's got that snake-oil charm and laconic sensibility that made Han Solo the coolest motherfucker in the galaxy. You put Gosling in the driver's seat of the Millenium Falcon, give him a few one-liners and there isn't going to be a dry-seat in the cinema. Imagine his character from Crazy Stupid Love but with blasters and a Wookiee companion. How cool would that be?!

ANTON YELCHIN

With JJ Abrams directing Episode 7 - although there's a rumour he won't - you're going to have to expect a bit of crossover casting from Star Trek. Although Terminator: Salvation was pretty much a mess, Anton Yelchin was pretty great in it. He really nailed his character as a young Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn from the original Terminator). He's done serious roles and funnier ones, but we've yet to see him in a serious action role. This could be the one for him.

CHLOE GRACE MORETZ

She's currently kicking ass as Hit Girl in the sequel to Kick-Ass and she's also due to scare the bejeesus out of everyone in the Carrie remake. Not only that, Chloe Grace Moretz was amazing in Let Me In, easily one of the best vampire films we've seen in the last few years. The only question mark over Chloe Grace Moretz's head is whether or not she'd actually be up for it. She seems to be steadily moving away from these sort of flashy, mainstream roles and into more indie fare. Then again, she might simply be holding off for the right role.
