We are so on board for this.

Ryan Coogler’s sensational, record-breaking Marvel movie Black Panther continues to be hailed as one of the studio’s best recent movies, even in the wake of the also acclaimed Avengers: Infinity War.

Coogler gave a talk at the Cannes Film Festival about his recent movie, during which he was asked by moderator and critic Elvis Mitchell if the women of Black Panther were as important as the men.

The director answered, “I think you could argue they are more important,” going on to point out how “there’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women,” referring to when the titular hero (played by Chadwick Boseman) is left for dead and needs to be rescued.

“That part of the movie you feel like you’re watching something fresh and new,” he said. “That part of it was exciting. We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie. Some of them have before. We were so fortunate. I would watch a movie with them!”

The female cast of the movie are truly impressive, with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o in the role of Nakia, T’Challa’s former lover, while Angela Bassett plays Ramonda, T’Challa’s mother. But the standout characters of the movie have to be the warrior Okoye, played by Danai Gurira, and T’Challa’s back-talking, tech-savvy sister Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.

Upon being asked if he would ever do a spin-off with just the female characters of Black Panther, Coogler said: “Oh man, that would be amazing if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic-book version.”

Come on Marvel, make this happen!
