Russell Brand has seemingly recovered from the underperforming Arthur remake he headlined, and will co-star opposite Julianne Hough in Diablo Cody's untitled directorial debut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film centres on a conservative woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash. Doing the sensible thing and going to Las Vegas to "live the life of a sinner" she ends up meeting Brand's stranger who makes her feel whole again. Sounds very Cameron Crowe, and I like it. Cody won an Oscar for her brilliant screenplay Juno, and has since worked on a bunch of projects - most notably Jennifer's Body, which didn't do great coin. In Cody's defence the problems with that film were more directorial than script based.

She's also just penned the movie Young Adult for her Juno director Jason Reitman, which will star Charlize Theron and Patrick Wilson.
