Mickey Rourke is in advanced negotiations to star in a remake of, Irish filmmaker, Neil Jordan's gangster film Mona Lisa. The original is a cracking film starring Bob Hoskins as an ex-con, who gets a gig driving a high class call girl about. When she gets in over her head with the local gangsters, he agrees to help her find her way out. According to Variety, Eva Green will play the call girl, while Kids director Larry Clarke will, somewhat strangely, write and direct the film. The setting will be transferred from 80's London to modern day New York. It's so far out there, with Clarke directing, that it may actually work; but this really does file amongst the "needless remake" pile - the original is excellent.
