David Fincher has just cast his female lead in the English language adaptation of the Swedish book, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. American actress Rooney Mara will take the part of Lisbeth Salander, a hacker who teams up with Daniel Craig's PI to investigate a decades old case.

The role of Salander was one of the most highly sought-after for twenty-something actresses in Hollywood, with the likes of Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley linked at different points. Fincher has just worked with Mara, who also appeared in the atrocious remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, and the much buzzed about Fincher-helmed Social Network, where her work is said to be exceptional.

It may seem a strange decision to set the English language version in Sweden as well, but if any director working today has earned the benefit of the doubt, it's David Fincher. Shooting is to begin in September.
