Rooney Mara has gotten instant credibility as an actress since being cast by David Fincher in his remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The only other film I'd seen her in before (her small role in) The Social Network, was the awful remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. And you couldn't judge anyone on the evidence of that... except the director, producers and writers, obviously.

Now, according to TwichtFilm, the actress being lined up for the lead female role opposite an already cast Josh Brolin in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy. Lee also wants Christian Bale for the main villain role, which would round off a pretty great cast. Brolin and Bale were supposed to work together before on Terminator Salvation, but Brolin turned down the role that eventually went to Sam Worthington. The Dark Knight Rises star apparently wants to finish work on that film before committing to Oldboy.

Mara has not yet been cast, and should get a lot of offers off of the back of 'Girl'. Bale is also shooting a new film with Terrence Malick - on the sly, apparently.
