We've known for some time now that the story of Robin Hood is set to be rebooted on the big screen once again in the form of Kingsman's Taron Egerton in Robin Hood: Origins.

The film has already assembled an impressive cast with our own Jamie Dornan and Eve Hewson playing Will Scarlett and Maid Marion respectively. Jamie Foxx meanwhile, has signed on to play Little John.

It now looks like the film has found its new Sheriff of Nottingham with Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn reportedly in talks to play the role.

Variety are reporting that the Emmy winning actor is negotiations to play the villain in a story that will portray Robin Hood as a war-hardened crusader who joins a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English monarchy.

The Sheriff of Nottingham would be one of many villain roles that Mendelsohn has played as of late, the most recent coming in Rogue One where he portrays Orson Krennic, an Empire official.

It's quite fitting given that the most iconic Sheriff of Nottingham was of course played by the late Alan Rickman, who also played his fair share of villains throughout his career.
