A recent interview with Robert Pattinson has sparked theories about the direction DC is heading in.

Robert Pattinson is the latest actor to take on the iconic caped crusader in Matt Reeves' upcoming 'The Batman'.

His next project however is starring in 'The Lighthouse' from A24 with Willem Dafoe.

Pattinson was interviewed about 'The Lighthouse' and his general career for Variety of late and something he mentioned - or rather *didn't mention* - has got movie fans very excited.

It's Pattinson’s first interview since being cast as the Dark Knight so he was bound to let something slip.

Toward the end of the piece, writer Ramin Setoodeh notes an exchange between the two, part of which is retracted due to it being a spoiler.

The interview reads:

"At one point in our conversation, he offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in “Joker” (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it. “Oh s—,” he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers. “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”"

It's impossible to know exactly what was said and whether it was a spoiler for 'Joker', 'The Batman' or both. A major theory is that Pattinson's comment hints at a crossover between the superhero and antagonist in the future.

This in itself has implications for the future of the DCEU as Batman and the Joker may exist outside it. Then again, maybe it means Joker will be brought into the DCEU.

Warner Bros has confirmed nothing about a future crossover thus far.

We should know more once we see 'Joker', which hits cinemas on October 4th.
