This Just In! Robert Downey Jnr has just picked up the rights to turn hit TV show Black Mirror into a movie. For those of you who aren't aware, Black Mirror, created by Charlie Brooker, isn't as much a serial TV show as it is a series of individual shows, each with their own story. This year, our own Domhnall Gleeson has made his Black Mirror debut, which you'll get to see tonight. Head over to Sarah's TV quarters for more information on that.
Anyhoo, Downey Jnr will hone in on just one episode. The one he's interested in was written by Peep Show's Jesse Armstrong, and starred Toby Kebbell and Jodie Whittaker. As for the plot? Well, as per Broadcast, this one (often touted as the favourite from series 1) sees the invention of tiny implants which record every experience of the implantee. So that's everything they see and hear. By recording everything, you then get to relive past experiences time and time again. Wouldn't that be cool? Thing is, it leads our protagonist a tad insane, as he finds himself scrutinising every little detail about his relationship.
Broadcast reveal: "Downey Jr. is understood to have fought off competition from rivals including George Clooney to acquire the rights... It's not yet clear if RDJ is angling for a role for himself in the adap, or if he'll stay behind the scenes as a producer."
No news on casting yet, it's far too early in the game for that, but we'll let you know as soon as we find out.
The second series of Black Mirror starts tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm.
